Corn ,cattle and wool trading made Leyburn
prosperous, and many of it's best buildings, in the Georgian style,
were built in the 1700s. In 1684 Charles II granted a charter
for a market every Friday which continues today. The market place
contains a War Memorial which stands on the site of the old market
cross which was put there to remind traders to deal fairly.
Leyburn is an ideal centre for exploring
the area. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is nearby and the
region is rich in castles, country houses, monasteries, museums
and many other attractions.
